Stamping Along

Somehow I have been able to put together
a brief post and apologise in advance for the photos,
especially of my blocks which have not been trimmed!
I lay the blame squarely at the door of my second Covid 19
shot two days ago. and it's effect on my whole body!!

So, the blocks are for my take on a quilt seen in the new book by
Kaffe Fassett mentioned in my post
HERE

Below is a photo of the original quilt which inspired him

to make
his version below
Stamps and Bricks

I was hooked!
But as usual I decided not to follow exactly either of
the two quilts.

Here are a few of my blocks for the central portion

which all need trimming but until my body stops this incessant aching
they will stay just as they are and I've done a little cropping!
Another 14 to go if I stick with the size in the book, but I'm not
too keen on making a 74 and 1/2" square quilt, I may add another
row of blocks so the set will be 5 across by 6 down which will give a little
more length, or I may go smaller!

The only other exciting happening this week is receiving the backing
fabric for Matt's quilt - I went with the KF Hydrangea in Purple,
and I'm very happy with it.

I'm heading off to down a couple more pain meds but here's one of
the roses in the front garden - can't remember the name.

Happy Quilting
Maureen

  1. Sorry you got that reaction--I was out of commission for a few days too--but now feeling happy that I am fully vaccinated..
I like your 9-patch blocks with those little glimpses of the KF fabrics...nice work
Take it easy and rest up hugs, Julierose

  2. Well, as you know, I was vaxx damaged for a month and understand your pain. My immune system crashed and was on too many antiobiotics. I pray you will come out of this soon. Love those nine patches and the quilt. Just rest and sleep for now.

  3. Oh, that will be such a lovely quilt! I'm curious: why do you trim these blocks? Any slight imperfections are hidden in the seam allowances, right? I find trimming so hard on my shoulders that I avoid it unless absolutely necessary. So only for HSTs and even then if they are close I let the seams do the work :)

  4. What a glorious rose! You always have the most gorgeous colors going on, whether it be in your quilts or in your garden!
Hoping you feel better soon. My own reaction to the vaccine was very minor and short-lived - I wish you could have had the same!

  6. Your nine patches look pretty good from here. I'd follow Louise's advice and only trim those that are glaringly off. That is a gorgeous rose which I would have mistaken for a peony bloom if you hadn't identified it. Sorry you've had a bad reaction to your 2nd dose. Hopefully, your misery will be short-lived and it still beats the alternate of coming down with Covid. While caution is still advised, being fully vaccinated brings a great sense of relief.

  7. I love the inspiration quilt Maureen. I have a draw full of spotted fabrics. Umm might make good use of them. Yours 9 patch blocks look great to me. I suppose with your medical issues you were told to expect a reaction, but it isn't nice when it happens. I haven't had my 2nd shot yet...early July. I hope you recover soon Maureen. Maybe its a good time to sit and relax and do some handwork.

  8. Love all the 3 versions of this quilt, hard to decide which way I would go {I too have a draw of spots!}. I remember reading Kaffe describing the centre as "150 patch quilt". Love your blocks so far! Hope you are feeling better by now, being vaccinated will bring much relief. News isn't good today, things are turning to custard "down under"!

  11. I'm sorry you had a bad reaction. I did, too although not as severe as yours. My consolation is that we can be sure the antibodies are developing properly.
What a great mix of squares and logs. I need to use up some random squares but mine aren't as pretty as these.
    I will watch your progress.
