Waiting In The Wings

Hi all - yes, I'm still here!!!

Wishing you all a very belated 2026

Things are still 'in the works' here on the health front with more procedures to come but over the past few days I am feeling a little more energy creeping into my body and mind so I'm taking advantage whilst I can.

Hexies have been a blessing to use up scraps, sometimes working on them in the middle of night when I'm  unable to sleep but not sure how I'm going to use them - just sewn together randomly, make  a hexie flower, I need quite a few more before I make a decision.

Maggie Pearl blocks have been sewn together into a top now

here she is  - at least a small part of her -with the fabric for the backing

I need to really have a long, long, housekeeping session with my quilt tops, tops needing to be basted ready for quilting and tops just needing to have the binding put on. Some of my quilt tops I intend to sell because I know I am time limited on the health side of things , prognosis for the CMML (blood cancer) is improved a little with the Melbourne testing and so far I am not needing chemo -yet. Cardiac not too good, definitely need an aortic valve replacement as both ventricles are now being affected by the effects from the valve and energy comes and goes - so I wonder why I bought two more lots of fabric last week??????? I don't think giving up totally will do me any favours so I do try to be positive - at times! Frustration sets in with the need for lots of resting, climbing steps is a struggle and I can no longer walk very far, not as far as I should like, my garden has suffered terribly, there is only just so much my husband is able to take on as he is due to have a hip replacement soon.

So relating to the last few words I've decided to use some of my scrap pieces of fabric along with a few from the AMH Iconic range and pulled a mix of quarters/half metres from stash to make Paris Metro, a pattern from Jo at https://www.theseclevehands.com.au, a very effective but straightforward design. First up a few of the Iconic fabrics

As you can see cutting is needed for the last three sets of fabrics,  I limit myself to 30 mins at one time.

That's all from me but I must show you one of my hibiscus flowering for us at the moment

Happy Easter to you all

Maureen

Oh what a JOY to find your post this morning and to discover a comment from you in my Inbox. Your Maggie Pearl is beautiful and the fabrics you've pulled for Paris Metro (love the story behind her pattern's design) are stunning. I have never been a hexie maker but I do totally understand their allure. Maybe hexie flowers on a block-based quilt design (meaning the appliqué of the flowers onto blocks keeping the project portable until the final assembly stage)? One of my local friends made one (maybe two?) that way whilst her hubby was hospital-bound and later when he was in rehab for months before moving to his new care unit apartment. Happy Easter to you and your hubby (and best wishes to both of you health-wise).

Your Maggie Pearl top is so pretty and I love your backing choice.
I had never seen a Hibiscus bloom that wasn't just one solid color. This one is beautiful.

Ok, I stopped crying now and can type some words. I can't believe what you have and are going through. I have been in a creative slump, not sure why, but you are inspiring me to kick it aside and go forth. I do not have the gift you have for picking out fabrics. Everything you show is exactly what I love. I have been sewing, but unable to write or take photos. I wish there was something I could do for you. I will continue to pray for your health, strength and ability to exercise your considerable gifts.

So good to hear from you, Maureen. I love the fabrics you are using for Paris Metro and the Maggie Pearl quilt turned out delectable. I'm so sorry you are suffering through such a medical horror show. But you persevere, giving all of us inspiration. I hope Your husband's hip replacement goes smoothly.
Happy Easter.
Pat

I have received an unwelcome diagnosis and decided that the quilt I'm piecing would be my last. And then, I realized how much joy I feel when I've got a project going. Buying all that lovely fabric is definitely a good plan and an inspiration for us all. Look forward to seeing your quilt in progress.

It was so welcome to see both your comment on my recent post and now a new post on your blog! The Paris Metro quilt sounds interesting and you've chosen some gorgeous fabrics. That hibiscus with its various shadings would make into a lovely quilt, especially for springtime. I hope you will have more days with increased energy and that you can get the needed heart procedure done soon as well. Best wishes to your husband, and prayers that his hip replacement goes well.

It's lovely to read a post from you, Maureen! You know you've been in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure fabric-shopping is spirit-lifting, as evidenced by the beautiful assortment of fabrics you showed. You have a great eye for color! Your EPP hexies remind me I have a box full of already-cut hexagon fabrics and papers, all lying in wait for my attention. But we do what we're attracted to, right? I wish I lived close enough to pop by and do some fabric-cutting for you. In spite of frustrations, I hope you find peace and satisfaction in sewing. Take care of yourself. Have a blessed Easter!

Add me to your admirers who are delighted to find a new post from you with more glorious quilts. You do have a gift for choosing fabrics and curating them into joyful quilts. I’m saddened to hear of your continuing medical issues; you and your family remain in my prayers. Like you my quilting has slowed tremendously and like you I’ve wondered what will happen will all my excess fabric. Better to keep buying some though. It lifts our spirits and sparks ideas even if we won’t finish them all.

Glad to see your blog post!! Your Maggie pearl is coming along nicely. You need new fabric - its like permanent flowers that can lift your spirits. Glad you are feeling well enough to do some piecing. Prayers and hugs friend!
