Scrappy house number 2

My second house, I intend to make only two houses each month
in the colour set by Angela.
This quilt is going to be named
"Home Sweet Home"

Remember my Scrappy Mountains for the project last year - the top is now complete
and it's hanging in the closet - with six other quilts - waiting to be quilted!

I've just realised we have one more Saturday link left, and I'm not sure
whether to make a couple more stars, I have a lot going on next week
with two new projects - Gypsy Wife see my sidebar - and working
on a Kaleidoscope with my long awaited Mostly Manor fabrics which arrived
yesterday!!!!

That's all this post, we are melting here in Auckland and other parts
of the North Island, not easy to be quilting at the moment.

Hope you all keep safe in the snow storms some of you are experiencing.

Linking up with
"the other blues"
and
Oh Scrap!
for more scrap fun.

Scrappy Mountain is now a finished top

I finished the last seam on Scrappy Mountains yesterday and photographed it
outside early in the morning

not the best shot but I couldn't get a full on photo
on my design wall - re-organisation in process in my
little studio!

Thanks to everyone for their comments on my computer/printer
in or out of the sewing room - much appreciated and I hope
I have replied to all individually.
The outcome is it's gotta go somewhere else - so I'm trying
a couple of spots for it around the house.

I'm behind this week with my second blue house and that needs to be
ready for Sunday morning our time (NZ) and next week I
shall be choosing fabrics for Gypsy Wife - see button on sidebar -
and hoping that my Mostly Manor fabrics for my kaleidoscope will at last arrive!
Tracking shows me that it has taken five days to go from Austin TX
through to Chicago
and I'm told now four days o from Chicago "my item is now on it"s way to the destination"
boy do I hope so!

Quick garden shot and then I'm off to cut a house

this is part of my large patch of  liriope.

Back in a couple of days - happy quilting!

Christmas countdown and RSC 2015

Been in a bit of a go slow mood the past week, I decided
to work on something simple and made a little more progress
on my Scrap Vortex blocks,  these three will be 18"x 12" blocks.

Scrappy Mountain Majesties, you will see I have changed the setting which
I was going with earlier, when all the blocks were placed
on the design wall in the zig-zag formation it looked just
too messy, at least I found it so, and decided on a change.
The blocks are all stitched together and this week I hope to
have the rows together

The last link of the year is the 28th December - this year has just flown by!

Time to link up with
everyone rushing to have finishes!

I'll leave you with a photo of one of my Hibiscus flowers

I may not get another post in before Christmas so I'll wish
you all a Happy Christmas, keep safe and well and see you soon!!

Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2015

This month it's time to put our RSC2015 projects together - hopefully!
I've started with my Scrappy Mountains, no particular order
as they're going up 'cos they'll be changed around when every block is on the wall.
I can already see I'm not too happy
with the bright pink, third row down fourth block along, certainly not in the position

 it's in presently.

A few more blocks are needed, possibly yellow which I tried in that
particular colour month but they didn't do anything for me, I'll try again.
Violet, peach or aqua are possibles.

I can already see I'm not too happy
with the bright pink, third row down fourth block along, certainly not in the position
 it's in presently.

One more flower photo before I go

Back to more placing on the wall, happy quilting!

Mountain catch-up and one extra teapot

I never made Scrappy Mountains in Pink for
Rainbow Scrap Challenge, can't remember why but no matter as
I have just finished sewing up six of them, some may not make
it into the finished quilt at the end of the year but that's OK.

This month we have bright green so they're on my "next to do" list
hopefully tomorrow.

Philip Jacobs new fabrics had this luscious new colour way
in his Brocade Paeony design just begging to have a teapot made
out of it

this is for me!!!

Catch you over the weekend.

An early start to Sunday

We were sitting in front of the television at 4.30am today!!
The final of the Rugby World Cup and our All Blacks (New Zealand) were
playing the Wallabies (Australia) and hooray the All Blacks won the day!!
Back to back wins and the only team to have won
the Cup three times - what a great game. However, I am now paying the price
for the early start to the day, all I have achieved
on the quilting front is to pull fabrics -

deep pinks for my Scrappy Mountain Majesties (catch-up)

and lime greens for the colour of the month with
Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2015
my iPad camera doesn't seem to be picking up the rich colour of
these limes even though I had them in various light sources
and
two more blocks for Scrap Vortex, once again there seems
to be an issue with colour you can see how dull these blocks
look, they actually are much brighter

a bit of work on finding the best light sourceset up needed I think.

This photo of the first rose to flower in the long side border is
the true colour

Hopefully I shall be more productive over the next few days!

Catching up

It's been a busy week with grandchildren, working on my Rail Fence quilt for the Quiltalong at
Cultural Fusion Quilts
and working out which fabrics in my stash I'm going to hang on to and which
can find a new home, I desperately need to cull!

I have been able to get 6 Scrappy Mountain blocks together
in black!

Notice the pukekos - they are contrary little creatures and
do things a little differently to what we would expect!

Hopefully I can get out in the garden for a little while late afternoon,
it's a beautiful Spring day  even though Spring doesn't officially
hit us until September 1st. Daffodils are blooming, bluebells budding up, camellias
full of flowers  and yesterday we bought super size punnets of viola and stock from the
garden  centre nearby, the stock plants are just in flower and the scent is heavenly, I've
planted them by the path to the front entrance.
I love this time of the year!

If you would like to see more black or neutral projects go along to
for the link-up.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2015 - Mid Year Update

Here we are - the middle of the year already and time to post
our progress with projects.
I changed my project at the third month mark and went on to Teapots, Scrappy Mountains
and Stars - the Stars have not progressed much at all so
there will be no photo of those today, but my teapots

are coming along nicely, they still need to be machine appliquéd.
Now we have four more months to go which is
going to leave me with an odd number for a quilt, and I'm thinking
wall quilt with this one, so options are to use two more teapots and make
it a nine block
and make a small piece with the remaining two teapots at the end of the year.
I can play around with the placement when all 11 are finished. They will
have sashing added and border or borders.

Scrappy Mountains - haven't yet caught up with yellow or pink and
because these others below are dark I feel I would want
to go dark pink and maybe yellow/orange, not decided yet.

There are two settings which appeal to me, the first photo
does not have all the blocks, I just didn't have enough time or energy
to keep taking them down and re-arranging into any
number of settings, so

above is the first setting
below is the second - and note that I have to make another
two turquoise blocks and change out a couple of reds, in the setting below I'm not happy with KF "Dream" in red - too many other colours coming in and it just doesn't gel
for me, also there's a background fabric not working, so I'll get to those
next week

my design wall won't take the width so the first and last block either curve onto the
other wall or hang off the edge!!
You can see the sixth block and ninth block in red - they've got to go and I'm not too happy
with the 8th and 11th background I think that's going also. When all eleven months
are up I will be able to play around with colour rows.

I would appreciate your views on the two fabrics I've mentioned if you feel inclined
to give me a comment.

Well, that's it from me and I will make an effort to finish the Stars but I have
quite a few other projects on the go as well as these!

Time to link with other posts on progress
with Angela at Superscrappy

Happy Quilting

More Mountains and catch up teapots ..

Last week was pretty quiet on the quilting side of things, a visit to the doctor
confirmed I had extremely high blood pressure, ? kidney involvement.
A visit to the laboratory for tests and a visit to the chemist
for a another treat to add to my medication regime!!
However,
I have been able to catch up with yellow and pink teapots,
these two are joining the purple one to be machine appliqued.

My fingers and toes are crossed that I have enough variation in the spot fabric
to carry on through the next few months. I may have to force myself to
order more yardage in other colours - pity!!

Mountains in green this week and  an update from Angela that we should be aiming
for dark green so here goes

My H blocks for our grandson are up on the wall but I need another 14 so
that's a job for tomorrow. Both the H blocks and the Mountains are so quick
to cut and sew, really enjoying these.

We had an afternoon tea/family party today for the 2nd birthday of our
youngest grandson, a great time had by all especially when
the luscious chocolate birthday cake was placed on the table,
you should have seen the eyes of the two boys, they couldn't wait
to try some. Pity I didn't take a quick photo to post.

Linking up now with all the greenies at
superscrappy for RSC 2015

See you in the middle of the week, hope you have a good one.

Purple pots and blue mountains

I needed something new to show for the last purple Saturday
and when I first saw the teapot pattern in
Kaffe Quilts in Morocco I knew that these were on my future agenda.
In a crazy moment two days ago I decided what a good idea it would be to
make rainbow teapots but they would be fused and machine appliqued.

Here she is waiting to go under the machine and
you will see that there is no knob on the lid of this one, I just
had to fussy cut into Thousand Flowers instead, in fact I may use this idea
for all of the teapots!

My other project this week was to play catch-up with the
Mountain Majesties and 6 blue ones are done

to add to the purples.
The centre seams are not sewn as yet because no decision has been made on
the setting. Once again these are slightly darker than they actually are, sorry!

Hope you're all enjoying the weekend and I'm off now to see what
everyone else has made this week in purple over at

That time of the week…...

Yes, Saturday (Sunday here) and time for a post about Purples.

I'm posting  the Mountain Majesty blocks again from last weeks' post, the
colours looked very muddied, this taken on a good day is clearer

but taken on a funny angle!

With this Saturday and two more to go in April I wondered what on earth
I was going to make with purple, I didn't need more purple Mountains but
I love Ohio Stars so I'm making a second quilt.

The one above looked better on point
but it seems I didn't take a photo of that setting

however I think I will go with on point. Six each month set diagonally should make a
good quilt, the blocks are 6" finished.

I'm using up some of my older tiny prints for the background where possible, I have heaps
going back years and years. My Kaffe scraps just have to be in there
and confession time …… I have just had a delivery of the
new range so I may just have to have some of those in these two quilts.

Don't forget to visit everyone at
the Rainbow Scrap Challenge
I need to play catch-up over the next few weeks to make more of the two
different blocks in Blue, Pink and Yellow!!

The week seems to have flown by and I feel as if I'm back on a roll with my
quilting! The blue hexagon quilt should be all put together in a few days and
not many more H blocks to sew.

As it's a purple month have a look at the tiny cyclamen patch
below - they are actually more pink I know - and

about three inches high at most. This is just a small patch there are more,
each year after flowering I wait for the seed capsules to mature then
sprinkle under the hydrangeas, they seem to love it there.

We have family coming for dinner tonight so it's time for me to head to the kitchen,
Summer Quiche tonight made with shortcrust pastry, sour cream, shallots, tasty cheese, eggs, courgettes,
basil and of all things - lettuce! It is just delicious and every bit as tasty when cold
for lunch the next day.
