Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2015 - Mid Year Update

Here we are - the middle of the year already and time to post
our progress with projects.
I changed my project at the third month mark and went on to Teapots, Scrappy Mountains
and Stars - the Stars have not progressed much at all so
there will be no photo of those today, but my teapots

are coming along nicely, they still need to be machine appliquéd.
Now we have four more months to go which is
going to leave me with an odd number for a quilt, and I'm thinking
wall quilt with this one, so options are to use two more teapots and make
it a nine block
and make a small piece with the remaining two teapots at the end of the year.
I can play around with the placement when all 11 are finished. They will
have sashing added and border or borders.

Scrappy Mountains - haven't yet caught up with yellow or pink and
because these others below are dark I feel I would want
to go dark pink and maybe yellow/orange, not decided yet.

There are two settings which appeal to me, the first photo
does not have all the blocks, I just didn't have enough time or energy
to keep taking them down and re-arranging into any
number of settings, so

above is the first setting
below is the second - and note that I have to make another
two turquoise blocks and change out a couple of reds, in the setting below I'm not happy with KF "Dream" in red - too many other colours coming in and it just doesn't gel
for me, also there's a background fabric not working, so I'll get to those
next week

my design wall won't take the width so the first and last block either curve onto the
other wall or hang off the edge!!
You can see the sixth block and ninth block in red - they've got to go and I'm not too happy
with the 8th and 11th background I think that's going also. When all eleven months
are up I will be able to play around with colour rows.

I would appreciate your views on the two fabrics I've mentioned if you feel inclined
to give me a comment.

Well, that's it from me and I will make an effort to finish the Stars but I have
quite a few other projects on the go as well as these!

Happy Quilting

I really do like the top layout with its up and down movement. As for the fabrics, I can definitely see your point on the reds. They do have quite a bit of other colors calling out. I would not be too quick to give up on them entirely though, in the top layout they seem fine to me. Same with the backgrounds, they do stand out when you are looking for them, but in the end, some level of variation keeps the quilt from being too predictable.

I just love your scrappy mountains... they look so great all together! I do like the first setting best, they seem to 'dance' more! And your red blocks & backgrounds? I personally love those added little unexpected touches of extra colour, it keeps it interesting, and adds a bit more depth.
But if something annoys you,of course change it! Look forward to seeing what you decide to do!

Such a treat to see KF fabrics used to such great effect! I'm with Angela: I like the first Scrappy Mountains arrangement because the of the movement - and the fabric choices all seem to work in that layout. The row layout looks amazing, too, but I see your dilemma with the fabric choices. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be stunning!

I love the first setting you used. I haven't seen mountains set that way before.
Isn't it funny how you put a couple of fabrics together and they look fine, so you make the block, then when you get them all together, you think "ick, that looks awful" and have to remake the block.

I'd advise you to 'sleep on it' for a few more months and see what you think in December when you put them all together. If they really bother you you can pop them on the back. Personally, I like the added surprise they give to the quilt. Those teapots are darling.

Teapots and Mountains are both coming along nicely. I hope to add the zigzag Mountains to my RSC16 project list. LOVE it!!

LOVE the teapots - would opt for a 9-block version if it were mine.

I prefer the zig zag layout for the scrappy mountain blocks. Have fun tinkering with the backgrounds . . .

BEAUTIFUL work you're doing!

Those are the cutest teapots!

I like the first Scrappy Mountain layout too! I made a Christmas quilt in that layout and my daughter always tries to steal it!

I forgot all about the roundup! Your teapots are wonderful and the dotty background is magical. And I absolutely love the first layout for the scrappy mountains.

Love these scrappy projects. I think high contrast and a few unexpected low contrast is nice, adds vibrancy and movement, perhaps if you can't live with those low contrast blocks, keep them for the back.

I love, love, LOVE your blocks! Especially your teapots. Beautiful prints and colors.

I like the first setting, too. And all the colors work in that setting, so win-win!
I love your little teapots, too. They're so cute, it may be harder to stop making them than you think it's going to be. (Or maybe that's just me...)

I'd love to have your stash of lights in all those colors that you've used in the mountain blocks. Lights are not something I have in a very diverse range of prints

Love your scrappy mountains Maureen. The tumblers should be a great quilt to make. I thought of making one after seeing it on Bonnie Hunters site.
