Cats for RSC2014 - stripping!

In my last post to RSC2014 I showed a few of my cats
set out in two rows HERE and
Sally T left a comment with the suggestion that perhaps a thin black strip between
rows would improve the look of the cat's ears
coming right into contact with the row above
so

tried out with a few more cats with what would be a 1" finished strip between.
I think they look much happier (bearing in mind they're just popped up there
nothing sewn yet, nor will be until 126 of them are all there).

What do you think?

looks good.

I had to go back to yesterday to compare them. They look more like cats sitting on a fence with the dark sky behind them with the strip between the rows. It will increase the length of your quilt by at least 8". Will that be a problem?

Like Wanda, I went back to compare. More airspace this way but the secondary pattern in the ear area goes away with the insert strip. Tough decision. I think I would test sew four cats in two rows /one set with the insert and one set without. That way you can see what the sewn seam allowances take out ... And four are not too many to then unstitch.

I like them with the strip as well but I guess it would be good to sew up a few as a test before committing one way or the other - fence sitting option!!
