A birthday with a difference!

I've been missing in action for two weeks, not by choice.

Thanks to all who left a comment and emailed their best wishes to me
for my 70th birthday on 26th October. Yes, I did have a lovely day until
9.30pm when I was taken to the Emergency Care locally and then on to
hospital by ambulance. I'll not go into the detail, just let's say it was a GI problem
which floored me!
Luckily it wasn't too long a stay, just 24 hours,
I was discharged on condition I took it easy for at
least  a week, it's taken me longer than that to begin to feel
more like my usual self.
I did no quilting until two days ago,
couldn't face Gypsy Wife  nor Kaleidoscope with my concentration span
being low, so something easy with no real mental input was needed.
The sum total of my achievement over the past two weeks below

all the fabrics are from the newest Tula Pink range, 12 blocks in total
and a super size at 16" finished. Just what the doctor ordered!

One of our newest roses is blooming

Princess Alexandra of Kent

Princess Alexandra fully open

The scent from this rose is unbelievable.
Apart from all the above I've been catching up with reading newish books,
more on that in a later post.

The other consumer of my time has been the election in the U.S.A.
My iPad is practically glued to my hands, I will just
say I certainly know who I don't want to see as President.  My stress levels
are growing by the hour.
The TV will be switched on Wednesday lunchtime here in New Zealand, it will stay that way until the final result comes through.

I guess some of you will have a great week, some not so great, but
happy quilting anyway!!
Maureen

Hello, I do hope you are resting, not stressing, and taking each day quietly. Lovely blocks, and a beautiful rose. Wednesday, we will all be so glad when that day is done.

Belated birthday wishes! Gosh what a way to end off your birthday evening! Not something you want to happen again. I like the Tula Pink star. I wish I could smell those roses..........I need a 'scratch and sniff' screen! :-)

That is an exquisite rose. You have such a variety of plants and flowers in your gardens.

Belated Happy Birthday. You certainly ended it with a bang. Hope you are resting and recovering well. Love your star blocks and that rose is just amazing.

Sorry to read about your health blip. Not nice. Those big bold blocks just the treatment to perk you up. That rose! Wow. Is it a David Austin? I adore his roses. I keep meaning to get an Abraham Derby. I have had them in several previous gardens. So pretty and beautifully scented.

Oh, no....not a health scare with hospital stay! I go into panic mode with the thought of it. Glad you are home, rested and now back to the machine. These biggie blocks are great! I tire of the tiny ones very quickly.
As for the Birthday.....congrats and hugs. Such a lovely rose you have here.
To the election....I have voted already, fear the worst is to come, and turned off the news as my husband's blood pressure can not take it.

Please rest up and get stronger! Love the big blocks. The rose is gorgeous. I am putting all my flowers to bed and enjoying each straggling bloom.

Glad to hear you on getting stronger! Loved the blocks, it is always nice to do easy quick mindless sewing.

My goodness, that's no way to celebrate your birthday! You'll have to continue to rest up and then have a great I Feel Good Celebration later. I love the fabric combos in your blocks, and those flowers are gorgeous :)

So glad to hear you are on the mend! The election is making me very anxious, too. At least we'll know in a few days, good or bad.

Your big blocks look great! I have a bad cold right now, so maybe I need a project like this while my brain is swimming in antihistamines...

Oh dear! What a shame you were ill on your birthday. I'm glad you are on the mend - sometimes mindless sewing is just the thing and I love your big blocks (especially that dotty fabric that has a bit of an optical illusion feel to it.) I'll be glued to the tv on Wednesday too.

Belated Wishes Maureen - I hope you continue to improve and you're on full speed again soon. Your Sawtooth flowers are very pretty, as are your rose pictures... I've seen a new variety I need to look out for :-)

Keep improving! The only thing I regret about getting older is that it takes so much longer to bounce back.
I've seen the optical illusion dots on other posts but didn't know it was Tula Pink. However, love the bunny you center in another star!
Like you, I have watched too much of this election cycle. Not much meat; lots of vitriol. Sometimes I wonder how a parliamentary government would change things. It seems those country decide on a basic course and then let whichever party or group of parties get it done. Americans elect a president from one party and Congress from another then wonder why nothing gets accomplished.

What a birthday to forget! I hope you can make up for it with a special day just for you. Get better soon and have a Happy "Other" Birthday when you are up to it. Wonderful that you have managed to produce such lovely star blocks. Just make sure you rest and smell the roses, especially your new Princess Alexander. It really does smell exquisite.
Much love from Jo x

Happy belated birthday - gosh you certainly had a dramatic one. Glad you are feeling better now.
That rose is divine - is it a David Austin one?

Well, there's a birthday you wont forget in a hurry. Your stars are fun, so perfect for the Tula fabrics. Such beautiful roses. Whenever I saw beautiful flower photos I wish computers had a smell button.

Thanks Mary. I'm afraid I can't reply to your directly as you're showing as a noreply-comment blogger. Do you have an email address?

Sorry about your ill health and glad you are recovering.
In regards the election I too was addicted: the vitriol on twitter, OMG.
I would like to say that now we can face the consequences with courage but who knows what is going to happen next? I feel the pain of my young politically engaged nieces.

Belated happy Birthday Maureen, now that's one to celebrate! I really hope you're on the mend after your hospital visit - these things often seem to take longer than we expect, but look at the wonderful blocks you managed to make...I'm looking forward to catching up with you because I can't imagine you stopping here! Some tines a burst of colour and some good relaxation are all we need :) Your gorgeous rose is superb, very green fingered...I may be a tad jealous! x
