Waiting In The Wings

Back on track with my quilting - baby steps!

Had itchy fingers after taking things slowly
for a few days so off on to another project!! Do I really need another project
I asked myself - I thought perhaps I did!
Before doing that I decided to steadily tidy through
my wire baskets which hold most of my fabric stash.

First up was green

then yellow and orange

pinks and red

blue and purple
I had an excess of blues and some have spilled over into another
basket. I have no idea why I collected so many blues -I don't use it
a heck of a lot. The remaining 18 baskets will be
attacked a few here and there.

I'm sure you all know about my passion for the
Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics,  sorting these into
colour groups can sometimes be a bit dodgy. It's easy to get an
overall impression of the focus colour but with so many other
colours in the mix it can sometimes be a hit and miss affair.
However, the abundance of colour is the reason I love them!

As a break from this I decided to delve into the containers of strips,
long and short, thick and thin, some not uniform in width. Strips
were picked randomly but looking at these quarter blocks
I can see I've begun with two lighter blocks and veered off to
my usual richer fabrics!

It doesn't matter because this is intended to be 72" x 72" and they'll all hopefully
play nicely !! These blocks are 12".
Don't know why the two bottom photos are not keeping in line.
Name for this quilt will be "Mardi Gras".

I'm thinking now of blogger friends who may be caught in
Hurricane Irma, in fact anyone who is experiencing this horrific
catastrophe. We have been following on the TV news reports,
quite unbelievable.

Stay Safe.

Absolutely delicious Maureen. The richness of those colours just brings a smile to the face. Of course you need a new project. Having finished a couple of quilts I have decided to do the same. Yay!

I have to ask, how big are your baskets, cos it sounds like a lot of fabric to sort!! Always nice to play with all your pretty treasures though.

Noting like a shiny new project to one's creative juices flowing! As a new comer to the brighter fabrics for myself I was recently gift some Kaffe fabrics and found them difficult to sort into my colourways.

Great beginning for baby steps as you go to this wild party! Love the blocks, love the name, love your style!
It's 5 am here, can't sleep, very worried about my brother in Naples, Fl as he may be stuck there and have to go thru the worse of Irma. And not a thing I can do to help. We are prepared here for the remains of Irma as it comes up north and across South Carolina. This has been a crazy month.
Glad you are back to expressing yourself....take it easy.

Oh, the colors are so beautiful. I have no stores near me that sell Kaffe and it is hard to pick out colors online. I just bought a red Kaffe layer cake from Missouri Star and am trying to decide what to make. I could just look at your blocks over and over.

Mardis Gras will be a stunner!! Sorting and fondling fabrics (especially gloriously colorful ones) is always a delight.

That is why you have more blue, because you don't use as much. I know you use your reds, pinks, and yellows a lot so you deplete the stash of them quicker.

I completely understand how tricky it is to sort KF fabrics into colors. Sometimes I just give up and put them in a bin all by themselves! Your new blocks are very fun.

Thanks for your well wishes about Irma. It looks like we will be only minimally impacted, and my heart goes out to other who are not so lucky.

I've tried to sort by color the few Kaffe's I have, but had to give up - just too challenging!
I'm glad you're feeling enough better that you can play with your fabric again. I always enjoy seeing what you're working on!

Mardi Gras, just as it signifies, bright and full of fun. Lovely to have those fabrics colour sorted. And so many more to go. Do you visit Lorraine at FlowerLady's Musings? She will have evacuated by this time, Plum Cottage is all boarded up, her cat Miss Tork, going with her, the others are barn cats and probably not able to be caged and taken too. It is all too frightening to imagine.

Thanks for sharing your colorful fabrics and new blocks. Inspiring.
I do hope for the best too for people being effected by the hurricane.

Good sorting and wonderful log cabins. I'm glad you're on the mend.

Lovely bright 1/4 log cabins! I'm knee deep in sorting fabrics here, so tempting to get diverted and sew something new!

Your baskets of fabric look good enough to eat (or roll in)! The new blocks look scrumptious too.

Your fabrics look beautiful and so do your blocks! I'm sure the quilt is going to be gorgeous! I keep my Kaffe Fassett fabrics by themselves. I like to look at them sometime! Sort of crazy! So glad I live far away from Florida and Irma.

HI Maureen...so glad you posted your pretty Kaffe fabrics...They are full of cheer...I wish my fabrics looked so lovely. Pretty depressing here...so of course besides eating candy corn...and drinking a bit of red wine, I impulsively bought the African fabrics on Equilter...Really Diane...did I need that...NO..I could have given the money to hurricane survivors...Buying the fabric was like medication for my soul...sigh...xxoo
