New Year, New Word, New Flimsy - Teapots

I should also add to the above a happy quilting year!

This year I'm taking part in a project to try and reduce
the number of quilts waiting to be quilting in my closet and
tops waiting to be finished - more about this in my next post.

I've given much thought to my chosen word for 2018, there were many
when I jotted them down, this is the one which stood out for me as
something I need in my life.

Balance in my creative pursuits, balance
with regard to a healthy way of living and managing
my health problems,
balance in my dealings with others, in fact I need
balance in my life - full stop!!
So, plenty for me to work on here.

On to the new flimsy, well it's almost a finished flimsy really
because I need to work out the border/borders next.
I struggled to take a decent photo today, light, best placement
of my portable design wall and so on didn't work out.

So, my teapots are all sashed now and I've used quite an
unusual choice of fabric. This was one which shouted
out to me right at the beginning but thinking it was too much
I spent ages trying plains, pattern on pattern and lots of
quiet fabrics, none of which hit the spot.
My original choice won the day.
A better photo will be posted next time.

I have a tub of fabrics waiting to be put into their
respective stash baskets, new Kaffe Collective ones
and the rejects for my sashing and fabrics from other projects,

hopefully by the end of this week, time permitting and
keeping in mind my chosen word for the year, I shall then have
an empty fabric tub.

I hope all of you in the USA experiencing the
horrendous weather are somehow finding ways to keep warm and safe.

Maureen

We had a 25-50 car pileup on the expressway near me yesterday due to a short blizzard. Yikes!
I live the background fabric for the teapots. Love the quilt. Balance. Great word. Hard to keep. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year.....love your balance word/idea. It is a word very limited by my condition....lol. I am merely enduring this harsh cold/low pressure time of the year. This morning is 13 degrees but thankfully no snow or etc. The teapots look wonderful and I adore the sashing fabric you chose. It moves your eye around and adds to the piece rather than just sitting there. The entire thing is fun and carefree.

I love your teapots, the chosen sashing fabric is perfect. Often the first idea is the best, and you have proved this with your sashing.like your word choice of Balance for your word of f the year.

Omigosh, those teapots are wonderful! I like your word "balance," too. Generally a good plan! I've just made my 18 in 2018 list too -- I think I'll be busy!

Great sashing choice, Maureen! Now your little teapots look like they are sitting on a charming, cozy kitchen table with a pretty tablecloth :)

Balance is a great word. I've actually been trying to work on my physical balance, standing on one foot while I brush my teeth. Trying to keep those ankles strong. Amazing what a few minutes at a time can accomplish!

I LOVE the sashing fabric. I too have tried to use plainer ones and always come back to the busy one I started with. I love your teapots and it almost.....almost has me thinking I should make some of those blocks too.

you are off to a flying start, lovely sashing, perfect for the teapots. I haven't decided on the word for 2018, I did apply myself to "keep" for 2017, and gave a lot away, donated, or sorted out. So hot lately down here, yesterday was over 32C, then suddenly dropped to 24,rain and thunder, so welcome to the dry ground.

The sashing balances your teapots and contrasts beautifully with the polka dots. The large pattern makes interesting lighting effects across your quilt. It’s not the location, it’s that great fabric you chose. Congratulations.

Happy New Year! The sashing choice is brilliant. It really highlights the teapot florals. This one is definitely a favorite of mine!

Balance is what we all need in our lives and I guess with quilting there is no exception. I look forward to hearing how you are going to reduce the UFO's in your life during this year.

I still have to work on the same word as last year: Molly! I do love seeing your teapots come together. And I laughed when I saw Kaffe's new fabric because it looks a lot like a quilt a layered and put away.

Oh my goodness, I love your sashing fabric: a brilliant choice and it balances perfectly with all the spotty fabrics too. Good luck with achieving the balance you want in 2018.

Balance is a great word. Ilove your opening photo, the pohutukawas framing Flat Island make me feel a little bit homesick for Howick.

Hi Maureen! Balance is an excellent choice for word of the year. I agree with your thinking.
And your teapots have some of my fav. colors; orange, lime, turquoise etc.
And some of my fav. Kaffe fabrics.
Happy.

Fabulous teapot quilt and perfect choice of sashing too. What a great start to 2018 and a step to reach equilibrium. At last I'm working on my daughter's wedding quilt. (married sept 2016..eek).

Happy New Year Maureen, that is such a perfect choice of sashing fabric for your teapots. Such a happy quilt, I hope you receive much sunshine from it, as that is what it brings to my mind. Balance, a lovely word and it will be of great benefit for you I am sure, to ponder on this for the year.
I have chosen most of my 18 projects for my list - I am doing 6 new and 12 old, just to be different. I enjoyed the 17 ufos in 2017 last year and found it helped me focus on getting through the mountain of ufos. LOL. I did surprise myself at what got done, so I'm sure you will find the same happens for you.
I wish you a wonderful New Year full of amazing health, gardening and quilting delights that give you great pleasure and balance in your life. Hugs

Wishing you a wonderful 2018. The teapots all turned out so well. As a tea drinker, I really ought to make one of these or at least a single block for a hot pad. Thanks for the inspiration.
