taking a break - literally - and sadly

well my friends this will be my last post for quite some time.

last thursday pulling out a few weeds by my path my neurological disorder kicked in, i lost my balance and use of legs briefly and headin g face down on to the concrete path, to try and save myself i put out my left hand to stop the fall, soon as my hand hit the groun d  i felt and heard the crac ks and crunch after crawling a few yards using r hand i was ab le to make it to gthe house before looking at my hand whic h was now twisted with obvious displacement of bone

taken to local emergency clinic, x rays the extent of the damage severe off to the nain hospital emegency department, great team told me i had really done a major. tried closed reduction to try line the sheared radial bone, other bones moved and quite a number of fragments as bones had sheared.  ligaments partly torn been in hospital, allowed hoome yesterday for two days go back tomorrow 5am for surgery which i am dreading but without it they have told me straight up i would have a totally useless hand ,with isurgery and plates in with screws and so on at least i should be able to function but there is a long road ahead with casts, braces it support, physio and so on.

as you can imagine i am devestated and sit here in my cosy room surrounded by my lovingly collected fabrics with tears dripping down my face, i had makin g a collection  of aquas for a quilt just for myself so that will a long time off now.

i can use the index r hand finger to type this and whilst morphine dulls the pain it also dulls the senses

please make every minute of you quilting count at least i will be able to read your posts and your latest news

take good care of yourselv es and happy quilyin g

Dear Maureen and John, I know I cannot do much in practical ways down here, but hope that your Auckland friends and I can band together and get your quilt done for you. Lots of love for the 5 a.m. start, lovely to chat with John, guess he will be the one and only cook and bottle washer for a good while. What a devastating event, cannot think of another name for it. LOTS OF LOVE.XXXX Jean.

Dear Maureen,
How devastating and painful. Wishing you the very best for your surgery and hopefully a full recovery. I always enjoy your blog and realize what a blow this is for your quilting and blogging. On a much lighter note: no more weeding, etc, for you! Someone else will just have to do it.
Warm Regards
Anne in Oz.

Maureen, I am so disappointed for you.I hope your surgery goes well and you recover well and quickly. I hope you can enjoy stroking your fabric (with your un-broken hand) until you are able to do a little more than that. Hugsx

Holy moly! I'm so sorry about your accident! I join other readers in saying how much I hope all goes well with your surgery and recovery. Someone wrote that you can still pet your fabric with your left hand, and you wrote that you can still read and enjoy other people's blogs. I will imagine you doing these things as you and John navigate these next weeks. Take good care of yourself. Best wishes.

Oh, Maureen - I am so very very sorry about the damage from your fall. I hope the eye candy of your fabrics will help brighten your recovery, even though I know you'd rather be sewing with them. Please take care and if you can, ask your husband to share a quick update post to let us know how you are doing. Virtual hugs, prayers, and all best wishes to both of you as you work your way through all this. (no reply needed)

I wish I didn't live halfway around the world from you because I would be right there enjoying your quilts and fabric and doing whatever I could for you. We all know we are more fragile in our elderly lives and hope that we can be careful enough to not have an emergency. You will be in my thoughts and prayers and prayers for your doctors too to do an excellent repair job on your hand.

Sending you my Best Wishes. It is a warning to us all to be careful out there and to not waste our opportunities or take things for granted.
I hope the pain isn't too bad. Hugs Ali.

We could sit in the garden on Morphine and pain meds and just be. Sending you love and encouragement. May the sun shine on you tomorrow xooxxo

Oh my goodness, Maureen! This is awful news! I'm so sorry for the imbalance problem that prompted your tumble. You poor thing! Sounds like your hand took the brunt of your weight. I hope surgery proves successful, and that your recovery is stable. Moderate, and thorough. Definitely DO NOT REPLY to me. Please just take the time to care for yourself, and try not to dwell on what you think you are missing. Instead, listen to audiobooks that help you escape for a while. And know that those of us who follow and read your blog completely understand not knowing about what you're doing. You ARE doing something. MENDING. Do it well.
