A new quilt top - almost - mojo back!!

After the last week or so I have taken inspiration from the book below, bought
a few days ago,

very good quotes and I love sloths so it 's a win, win.

On the advice of the above little creatures I spent the weekend
putting together a simple new quilt, following the pattern,
following the makers fabric selection and enjoying the process.
At this point in time it was an ideal project.
Just the borders to go on today.

Moss Garden

A free pattern from Free Spirit
using fabrics by who else but
Kaffe Fassett.
I first made a quilt using the pattern from the
Kaffe Fassett Patchwork book around 17 years ago.
It was listed then as Leafy Rosy Quilt, different fabrics of course, and I stitched away
as my Mum was dying of cancer back in the UK, the process kept me sane.
Unable to travel to be with her then due to my health at the time,
when I came across this pattern again I felt it was right to make
one during a happier time in my life.

There are so many ideas for quilts buzzing around in my head right now which need listing
and prioritising, some will not make the list as I was going into overdrive!

The weather is ideal for quilting as it's been so cold and wet but
today the sun is shining, although still very cold, and I've just wandered
through the garden.
Flowering and multiplying is a plant brought home with me
from Dad's garden in Napier 16 years ago, I wasn't sure exactly what it was.

Seems to be a Celandine according to the book below

comprising of illustrations of Victorian flower paintings found 20 years ago in
the attic of Frampton Court in Gloucestershire, UK.
Painted between 1828 and 1851 by three sisters and their aunt they are of
native plants from their area.
A wonderful book for plant lovers, given to me by the local
bookshop owner who retired 18 months ago
after 34 years!! As you can imagine I was a frequent visitor during those
years, my bookshelves can prove that fact!

Gosh, I have rambled on a while, this was intended to be a short post
however I do have one more photo of a sunset -  pure heaven to me - from our deck a few evenings ago.

Oak tree in Winter, wonderful colour in the sky and the newish moon visible between
the bare branches. I find the moon in all it's phases quite magical, a joy to see every night and it saddens me greatly to
think that perhaps one day rockets will take more and more enthusiasts to
land on the surface. Tragic.

Signing out now!!

Happy Quilting
Maureen

I am sitting here dripping in sweat from just pulling some weeds. It is better than it has been. Love the quilt, love the colors. Your sunset is gorgeous. Good for you persevering through the whole quilt without being distracted.

What a perfectly lovely post -- your latest top is gorgeous!! I've downloaded that pattern (thanks) and will go check out the Sloth book (mindfulness is a big thing at our house, especially for our younger son). So hot here - hard to imagine it is winter where you are.

While our blog friends are sweltering in Ca and N.S. and all between, we are still in winter, although some bulbs here have shown some yellow and white.Love the quilt, and to make another, this, too, will have memories. Maybe being like a sloth is an aging condition!!!

I like the idea of making a similar quilt in a happier theme than the previous. Or happier days. It really is all about the process so many times.:)

A wonderful assortment of Kaffe fabrics, love how the border fabric pulls everything together so well. That 9patch pattern, with its alternate block for showcasing special fabric(s), has always been a favourite of mine, so easy & versatile.

There you go.....making magic out of colorful 9 patches! That is a heartfelt story to go with this quilt. This pattern seems to repair the spirit. I am glad.
That book sounds lovely. I am a sucker for bookshops too:)Wonderful photo of the tree in winter, almost eerie in the shadows.

That's such a peaceful moonlight photo - magical. I like the riot of colour in your new quilt; it's nice to read that you're sewing again.

I'm glad to hear you are feeling better and enthusiastic once more in the sewing room. Things go in cycles so hopefully this is a long cycle of fun with fabric.

A lovely post Maureen. I agree with everything that has been said and love the way you dive into colour and swirl them around then let them settle into a magical mix. Looking forward to seeing the next quilt. Sunset is fantastic and I would be lost without books. 😊

So glad you're back to quilting! You're making such a beautiful quilt. Kaffe Fassett fabrics are the best! It's been so hot here. I forget it's winter for you. Such a beautiful sunset!

LOVE those colorful fabrics! Glad you are stitching again. Sometimes it's hard to get back to what you love after taking a short break. I have that issue.

Love your new quilt top made with so many glorious KF fabrics. Gorgeous! So pleased you have been able to put a name to the plant you brought back from your Dad’s garden. I have a tiny rose bush in a pot in my garden which came from my Dad’s garden about 25 years ago.
The sunset photo is stunning!

It makes me so happy to hear that you are enjoying some slow sew mojo! Sometimes following a pattern to the T is exactly the right thing to do. Love that sunset photo with the bare oak branches. Magical :)

Congratulations on getting your mojo back. That means there'll be plenty of inspiration coming in your posts.
But it's always good here Maureen, thank you.
I'm coveting the Frampton Flora book, what a treasure. And your Celandine is cheerful in yellow.
The nine patch is a classic beauty, I could go on and on, but I'm just going to soak it all in for a while.
Thanks again.

As always there is so much lovely in your post. I like that you are using some lovely straightforward sewing to get yourself going - it can be overwhelming when we have too many ideas crowding for attention, can't it? And that you are revisiting the pattern but in such a different frame of mind. It is beautiful and your choice of combinations has given it a bright, cheerful feel.

It’s always great to see what you do with your fabulous fabrics and your garden. Your bookstore friend’s book is a good gift for you although I’m sorry they won’t be there anymore.
