This is the first link up with
Ann at Fret Not Yourself
and
Cathy at Sane, Crazy, Crumbly Quilting
for
Kaleidoscopes and/or Butterflies
I've used four strips (cut 2") in this kaleidoscope, others I have made
have either used two strips or were similar to the one on my banner.
You can see I'm going with just one fabric for the corners in the current one
and the finished size of the block will be just under 12" - no thoughts
yet on how I will quilt this one.
The one above is my present favourite, but you won't
find any butterfly fabric in any of these blocks although
I'm using a piece as a backing for another quilt currently
under my machine for quilting
and I have another length exactly the same pattern
in a much brighter colour so you may see that particular fabric in
my next kaleidoscope.
No lovely photos of butterflies to show sadly but the monarchs are
already flitting around the plants in the garden so
hopefully I'll get a photo soon. In lieu of the butterflies here is
one of my dinner plate sized dahlias blooming right now.
Heading over to the link now, please do go and visit !

I usually sew corners on my blocks as I go too. I've done two versions with strips but always alternated wedges with the same strip set. I really like the versions that use two different strip sets.
Oh, your dinner plate dahlia is gorgeous. I used to have some. We have to dig those up in the fall and replant in the spring. The year my husband had cancer I didn't get it done and so no more dinner plate dahlias. You sure have a lot of beautiful flowers in yours.
I move the wedges so much that I don't sew them or the corners until the entire top is laid out. Makes it difficult keeping everything out the entire time, but that's probably good for me. Like you, I've only made single fabric wedges and now double strip. Your 4-strip sets look fabulous. Great colors, too. It's easy to see where you get some of your inspiration - your gorgeous backyard! Wow. What wonderful dahlias.
Thanks for linking up with our first Kaleidoscope of Butterflies.
I love those kaleidoscopes! (Though it's hard to pick a favorite, I think I'm partial to the just to the left of your favorite!)
Envying you your dahlias - we're months away from flowers here...
What a magical use of yellow! If we're picking favorites, I'm going with top left.
Looking lovely! How many blocks are you planning on making?
Not your usual colour palette but I love these. Do you have a flower in your garden to match every project you do?
Your colors and your flowers are always just glorious!
Lovely group of k's you have finished. and i love that butterfly fabric--my favorite is the one with the two-tone purple-blue stripey fabric...neat hugs, Julierose
