Definitely Spring and more on my Medallion

We have a very old orange tree in our front garden,
it sits at the beginning of the path to the front steps

and it may be a good age but my word we have great oranges
from it, husband makes the marmalade (which is delicious) and the blossom is just beginning to open.
The perfume is almost gloriously overpowering, I love it! Spring is definitely
here.
I have a few bluebells out so I must remember to take a photo of those
later this morning.

You might remember I made a start with the
Gwennie Inspired Medallion and  had reached the stage below,

this was taken on a pretty dull day, it shows
in the colours here.

Anyway with lots of things going on I didn't keep up with
the monthly schedule so the Medallion was shelved.
Yesterday I decided I had to finish it but just doing my own thing.
I've  added a couple of sliced borders, patched in a couple of
places because I had only a smidgy strip of the dark fabric (top and bottom) left
which I intended to use all around. After all  improvisation
can add a bit of interest.

Oops I never cropped the photo!

Fortuitously an order of Moda Grunge fabric arrived yesterday afternoon
and without realising it I had ordered the perfect lime green, so I added
a very narrow border. The next round will be pieced, but as yet I have
no idea of a design - I'm really making it up as I go along.

Back quickly to the fabrics - these are gorgeous, there are well over 100
colours in the range, the ones I ordered are below.

I am guilty of having been on a spending spree lately with
books and fabrics,  come to think of it that's a silly thing for me to say
because I actually don't feel guilty! There are many things I don't or can't do,
some due to health problems and these include
not taking expensive holidays, or sometimes any holidays,
I can no longer enjoy a glass  (or two) of lovely
rich red wine - which I loved - and I'm not a big buyer of clothing. The
first two are out for health reasons, the last because I'd rather
have fabric, or buy plants for my garden.

So given  the above you may be seeing more fabric and a couple
more books over the next few weeks!

I'm linking up with

At Ad Hoc Improv Quilters

Back to the machine for me - enjoy the last few days of the week
and happy quilting.

I have blue bells too! Your medallion is looking wonderful, I really like the sliced borders. It's great to hear you don't feel guilty about your fabric and books. Both are a joy and an investment. Looking forward to seeing what books you've buying.

Oh my goodness but the pink and green dots on brown is splendid! It's so bouncy yet its providing a bit of quiet! Maybe I will bring out my center block one day...

We are way past the scented flowers and just starting to have crunchy leaves on the ground. I love both spring and fall.

Darling basket. I really like the "tumbler" border. This will be fun to watch you finish. Thanks for linking with AHIQ.

I really like where you are going here - the borders all sit so well together. I'm with you on the fabric buying: it that's my only vice, I think it's a relatively harmless one - and your grunge is mouthwatering.

I love the rich colors and that bright green is the perfect accent to the pinks and purples. Enjoy your new acquisitions, those fabrics are mouth watering.

I like your finish for the borders, and your rich color choices. Orange blossoms are heavenly.....enjoy for me.

I really like your finish--especially that purple and green floral--just pulls it all together from the center. Nice that your Spring is on the way--we are looking at Winter's cold here...hugs, Julierose

Congratulations for making your medallion quilt your way - I like it very much. What assortment of Grunge did you purchase (ok to send me an email rather than answer here). I, too, would rather buy fabric or plants over going out to eat or buying stuff we really don't need.

Love your fabric choices! I just bought a load of fabric partly due to another rejection of my children's book and partly because of unceasing migraine pain and partly I love fabric. I look at fabric as an ingredient in creating quilts.

Beautiful medallion quilt!
Your orange tree is gorgeous. I'm happy for you.
I had to give mine up because of our recent move, I was sad.
But I'm looking forward to new things here.
Thanks for sharing.

Your medallion is pretty gorgeous too, Maureen! What beautiful fabrics. I'm with you -- I'd rather buy fabric than pretty much anything else!

I have to admit I would rather buy, books, fabrics and plants too than clothing. Where did you get the grunge fabrics from? Your medallion is in such pretty spring colours, can't wait to see what else you add to it. A medallion is on my oneday list ....

I am finishing off a smallish quilt by adding multiple borders. I look forward to seeing what you do next.

Love your medallion quilt! The lime green border is fantastic. The improv quilting seems to be working well. Can't wait to see what you do next.
