That Was The Week That Was

I'm using the title of a TV show from way, way back
for this post.

Almost two weeks since I last posted, it's been a bit hectic around here.
I've not been well, add to that a doctor check up which showed
my blood pressure at 196/90 - doctor not best pleased - and she
promptly doubled the dose of one of my meds.

That same evening very late at night our daughter
called me from the emergency department of the hospital.
She had been admitted in a hurry with a bad kidney infection!
A worrying time but after three days they allowed her home
with oral antibiotics (she'd been on IV during her stay).
She's slowly beginning to feel better.

Needless to say, we've been very busy and my quilting has been
on the back burner, but today I spent a little time on these
two special pieces.

Pukeko

There is a story behind these two littlies.
In a post February 2014 HERE I showed two photos of
a pukeko, a New Zealand native bird, beautifully coloured and
a real character.
Sally T at The Objects of Design
loved the birdy and made a block.

Fast forward to August last year when I was the winner of a Jelly Roll
in a draw on Sally's blog. I received the package and tucked away in there
were three surprises for me.

One  was the pukeko above, he's been living in a drawer in my
studio, today he was liberated and had two borders added, now he's going back
into the drawer until I can baste him - with needle and thread!

The second surprise was two cat blocks, each with a mouse in the tummy.
Sally and I had been having fun with cats and kittens during
the 2014 Rainbow Scrap Challenge, these two were obviously
escapees. They were stitched together today and
two borders added, again they're waiting to be basted.

Surprise number three will be revealed in a later post.

Fingers crossed that life can get back to normal for a while, I am
suffering from quilting withdrawal symptoms!

We've had some hot days recently, today is terrifically hot, and
thinking about a dip in the sea I brought up this photo below,
the view from the front lawn of a friend's place taken
three weeks ago

I'm feeling cooler by the minute!

Have a good week!
Maureen

I had that same fabric as your cat on the left. All are lovely. I'm so glad you and your daughter are on the mend. This has been a worrisome time.

I'm sorry to hear you and your daughter haven't been well. The bird and cat blocks are fun, so cute to add a mouse. It's been super hot here too so that last photo looks so inviting!

Sorry to hear you have been unwell, but thankfully on the mend. I adore your Pukeko. They are one of my favorite birds. As for cats, we have two of the beasties. Love that Kaffe Fassett fabric and the mice. We had 35 degrees here today. Yuk.

Beautiful little ones....colors are so great.
Whoa, your BP is dangerously high....that can wear you down too. Very glad your daughter is better... both of you recover soon.

So sorry you are not feeling well. I thought something must have been up. I have had a cold that has worn me down last week and prevented me from sewing as I want. It is still winter here, but not a very bad one. Play with some fabric today.

Playing in the sewing studio is one of the best ways to lower your blood pressure. I hope the meds work and that you get your energy back. I hope your daughter recovers well too.

Oh sorry to hear about your BP issues--totally empathize as my hubster is going through the same thing--not fun--up and down over and over for him. He sees his doc today.
I love your little gifted kitties--how cute are they with the mousies in their tummies ;)))
Rest up and go slowly...hugs, Julierose

My goodness, Maureen! That's too much excitement for one week :( I'm glad to hear that your daughter is on the mend and your doctor is getting your BP under control. A little fun stitching is helpful, too. Love all the little critters you're working on!

That Blood Pressure is a little scary Maureen! Hope the meds have it under control. Hope your daughter continues to improve. What lovely quilt blocks. I'm loving that summer has arrived-what a gorgeous view from your friends place.

THat BP is up around the same as mine. My Doc despairs as whatever he does it doesn't change. I think I'm just destined to have high blood pressure. Please keep posting the pics of blue skies. It's cold, grey and raining over here in Wales so I need the sun xx

Some fun sewing it just the tonic! Hope you are both on the mend now, and that you are able to spend some time sewing this week.

I hope the meds help bring your BP down. Having your daughter get better may help too. Getting annoying patchwork from the states probably doesn't help either. But that view is outstanding.

I hear sewing reduces blood pressure. Well, it reduces stress, anyway...
Good luck on the getting back to normal thing!
Love the birdy and kitties! (I've got a pukeko, too! He's currently draped over the top of my doll-sewing tool tray. He deserves a good quilting!)

I hope you and your daughter get better!
I like your kitties and Pukeko, I looked it up in Wiki, that's quite a story.
Take care, Maureen.

Hope both you and your daughter are going much better. Doctor and hospital visits don't make for good weeks sometimes. Love your birdy and cat blocks. Very fun and pretty. Hope you have lots of time for stitching this week.

I'm sorry to hear your health has not been ok - hope the adjustment to your meds works and you are back to normal soon - and that your daughter gets well quickly too. Love the Pukeko and Cat blocks - how clever she was to piece it like that- it makes so much sense seeing how she did it. Nice that you were able to get a little work done on those fabulus blocks. (PS Perfect border fabric for the Puke!)

They are both great blocks, and I love that bird fabric in the border! It matches perfectly. Take care of yourself, and best wishes to your whole family too!
